The Fortunate Fall

The Fortunate Fall – Josh Daniel

Yellow sky laced / with the branches of birch / and the somnolent cries of crows / we walk this
path / as if the rapture has freed us / of excess and noise / we are alone / a rabbit edges up to
the gravel / gives us pause / you raise your hand / meaning: peace / meaning: I save bees
regularly / I’m on your side / and the long-eared rabbit remains / twitching / dusk is falling / a chill
descends / but our focus is not on comfort or hearth / as fireflies splash green / you take my
hand / and I think this must be Eden / this natural embrace and the notion / that I would willingly
fall into sin / for a woman / with a woman like you
