Ed Madden grew up in rural Arkansas, the son of a rice farmer, went to school in Texas, and now works as a professor of English and director of the Women’s & Gender Studies Program at the University of South Carolina. He is also serving as the inaugural poet laureate for the city of Columbia, South Carolina.
